the final poster and map

poster draft2words copyless

here is my poster presenting each of the words i found. I also attempted to identify each typeface. To my surprise i found 2 pairs of words with the same typography! (i think). I am unsure about ‘have’ being the same typography as ‘will’ though, because ‘have’ is actually curved due to it being from a CD so the font is a little distorted. To identify the fonts i went through the fonts available on Word and carefully matched each one by process of elimination and careful observation.

here is a cityrail map which illustrates the locations of my words. The locations include at home in Five Dock, at various locations around North Sydney and in Melbourne.

Note: for precise locations of each word you can view previous blogs.

Overall i think this assignment really opened my eyes up to the extent the role typography can play in urban surroundings. Until now i wasn’t aware of what aspects of the font define its own identity and cater to different purposes. From the process of elimination in defining the font types for the words, i was able to realise the small and major differences between various types and between serif and san serif fonts. I am happy to say that from this semester i have gained a greater understanding of the importance of typography in the world of communications and how i can apply this knowledge to my own design experiences to come.

the final touches

poster draft1 copy

here are the final words i decided to use in my poster design. I am confident they are all from the different mediums and locations, obeying the brief’s requirements.

the search has come to an end :D

so finally i have created or found every single word of my fortune. in class we created one word… i created my 2 hard words just in case, both using my boots. I also managed to find ‘have’ on a CD because i got worried that i may have used the same medium again- can never be too careful. So here is what i found and made:
